Sports counseling and coaching can help athletes increase their athletic, personal, and academic potential.
Sport psychology.
Sports psychology studies personality, performance and team dynamics. For example, a sport psychologist may do research to pin-point an athletes personality traits that increase or decrease the quality of their performance. I use sport psychology to better understand an athlete’s approach and sport dynamics.
Counseling
Counseling helps people address a specific situation, such as stress, anxiety, and or conflicts. Treatment seeks to solve a problem or to learn skills to cope with or avoid situations that may be problematic. Being a Masters level Clinician allows me to better understand the brain, human development, and best tecniques to help athletes thrive in any situation.
Combining the two.
Sports counseling is a specialized field focused on an athlete’s overall well-being, mental functioning, and physical performance. Because performance is affected by what happens in sport and outside of sport, we look at the full picture, stress, confidence, pressure, emotions, relationships, recovery, and identity. Then we build practical tools and routines to help athletes regulate, refocus, and perform consistently. When the mental load is managed, performance, mood, and well-being improve together.
Mental Performance Coaching.
Mental Performance Coaching looks at the present and future of an athlete while focusing on the “how” of the problem. Coaching is sport specific and is centered around mental factors that involve training and competing.
